Now you can access DePauw photos, publications and more through the Digital Library
The DePauw Libraries have launched a new Digital Library that makes the University’s archives collection accessible to alumni and others without having to come to campus.

The collection includes more than 30,000 objects from the DePauw Archives, University galleries and museums, and Biology Department as well as University and student publications, including the student newspaper, The DePauw, back to 1932. Items featured on the Web site include artifacts, art pieces, biology slides, photographs, news and magazine articles, audio files and more.
Rick E. Provine, director of libraries and member of the planning group that worked to develop the site, said, “We will continue adding to the database, which we see as a 24-hour, off-site supplement to our libraries and archives. It’s another way for people to learn about DePauw’s history, traditions and art collections, and I’m delighted it is now public after many months of behind-the-scenes work.”
Construction of the Digital Library began two years ago, and it centered on a full-text search of The DePauw newspaper and the 500,000-item negative collection of Ralph Taylor ’33. A longtime local photographer, Taylor took many photos of University and campus events, as well as fraternity and sorority photos. For example, alumni looking for old photographs of fraternity or sorority pledge class members may find them on the Putnam County page on the Web site, which includes a convenient search box on its right-hand side that allows users to browse quickly for their name. Alumni planning for a class reunion may find the Web site especially helpful for obtaining photos from their years on campus.

The site is organized by categories, ranging from “Buildings” and “Methodism” to “Putnam County” and “Speeches & Audio.” Each collection has its own page that highlights aspects of that collection along with a built-in search engine specifically tailored for that collection.
Other features on the Web site include the “Get Copies” option located on the top menu bar that allows users to request digital or physical copies of a print, audio or video piece. The link takes users to a request form where they can ask for the medium (or format) they want for the copy. Users can also be specific about the resolution required for the copy and assign a deadline for the request to be completed.
Physical copies will vary in price as indicated on the price chart directly accessible through a link on the form, and digital (e-mailed) copies are available.
