Find the “Expand’ button over at the right side of Dreamweaver. The icon can be seen below: |
You should see a divided looking screen with “Local Files” on the right and “Remote Files” to the left. From there you want to click on the “connect” icon which looks like a plug connecting to another: |
You should then see files on your left and right side of the division. From this point, we need to find your folder(s) on the “remote” side which is on the left side. The files to your left should be the same file names as the site you are editing (Example: www.depauw.edu/acad/art is in the folder acad >> art) An example of this can be found in the picture if I was looking for acad >> art: |
Once you found your folder, make sure the folder is expanded and you can see the information inside the folder. Once you do that, you can just click on a file that you want to delete and press the “Delete” button on your key board. NOTE: Once you delete this file from the server and it isn’t on your local hard drive, the file is gone forever so make sure you don’t need it anymore or archive it somewhere on your computer before deleting. ![]() |
After deleting the file from the server, its time to delete the file from the local area. If you stay in the same area where you deleted a file from the server side (steps 3-4), you will notice on the right side it says "Local Files" which then should have folders / files there. Please locate the same file you deleted from ther server side on the local files side. Highlight it and press the "delete" button on your key board to erase that file. ![]() |
If the file(s) do not want to delete, look at the top most root on the "Local Files" area and just hover over the folder. It should say next to the top most folder something like "Site - folder name (C:\..)" and when you hover over it, it should show you the full directory name. Close Dreamweaver and browse through your computer to find the folder where all the site files exist and delete files that way.
