Stub Setup

What is a Stub Page

A Stub Page is an example page that is derived from the DePauw Template. It includes the default settings for your website. Default settings include keywords, description, location of your site (SubSiteRoot) and other properties. There is more information on how to create new pages at Creating New Pages.

How to Create a Stub Page

Step One

Creating stub.asp

Go to the "File" menu and select "New..."
File -> New File

Select the Template tab at the top of the Dialog box.
Select the DePauw Website in the section "Templates for:"
Select DePauw Template.

Click "Create"

Step Two

Define Your "SubSiteRoot" Template Properties

Go to the "Modify" menu and select "Template Properties"
Modify -> Template Properties

Select SubSiteRoot. Type the path to your site. (Example: /acad/english or /library...). The path to your site is the address without the "http://www.depauw.edu" . For example, if your website address (url) is "http://www.depauw.edu/folder1/folder2/testpage.asp", then your SubSiteRoot would be "/folder1/folder2".

Step Two

Define Your Default Website Settings

Title_Style2: Click on "Title_Style2" and the cursor will be positioned here. It is hard to see the exact position, so just begin typing. The title will appear in white on top of the banner.

Contact Email: Edit the text, then highlight and right-click to edit the tag. Contact Email
Change both the text that appears on the page and also the link on the text. Change the link to "mailto:" then the email address that is on the page. For the example pictured above the link would read "mailto:webteam.depauw.edu".

Go to the "View" menu and select "Head Content"
View -> Head Content.

A new horizontal icons menu appears, with three boxes enclosed by a blue rectangle. From left to right inside the blue box the icons are for "Page Title", "Keywords", "Description". You only need to edit the first three.

Title: Type the name of your website in the properties panel at the bottom of the screen.
Keywords: Type keywords that apply to your site’s content in the properties panel.Keywords Icon
Description: Type a sentence to describe your site in the properties panel. Description

Save as stub.asp
Save again as Copy of stub.asp. (just Incase you override your original stub)
