Toad trillium

Leaves:
Three leaves, usually mottled with light and dark green.

Flowers:
Flower is produced in the middle of the three leaves. Petals are dark maroon. Flower is sessile or stalkless.

More Information:

Trillium is from the Greek for "triple-lily," referring to the fact that the plant has parts in threes, like a lily.  The species name, sessile, is from the Latin for "sessile" or "sitting," referring to the stalkless flowers.
