Dense Blazing Star

Classification:

Family – Asteraceae, aster family
Genus species – Liatris spicata

Leaves:
Long grass-like leaves are clumped at base of plant.

Flowers:
Flowers are pink, purple, or white, arranged on a tall dense spike. Petals are tube-shaped. Flowers bloom sequentially from the top to the bottom of the spike.

More Information:

The genus name Liatris is from the Greek for "smooth" or "bald" and the species name spicata is from the Latin for  "spiked," referring to the elongated inflorescence of flowers.
