The razing of Music Hall (replaced by the Performing Arts Center) and Bowman Gymnasium (replaced by the Lilly Center) left a three-acre empty space between Hanna Street and the new Performing Arts Center. Since the early 1980s, this has been the location of Bowman Park. The park, with a natural amphitheater, curving walks, and a patio furnished with tables and chairs, provides an open-air recreational area conveniently located near the center of campus, across Hanna Street from the Union Building. Many student activities are held at Bowman Park. It is the site of all-campus activities, such as picnics and outdoor concerts. When the weather is nice, some students can be found studying, reading, playing frisbee, or doing other outdoor activities at Bowman.
