The Owl

The Scarritt Fountain, located near East College, was a gift from Winthrop E. Scarritt, class of 1882, in 1903 in honor of his brother Alfred who died while he was a student at Indiana Asbury (the original name of the University). Alfred Scarritt would have graduated in 1881. Atop the fountain, which has lacked water for as long as anyone can remember, sits a bronze owl, a symbol of wisdom.
