Jillian Werner

For my Senior thesis, I will engage extensively with the works of Pieter Brueghel the Elder, a much-studied yet still ambiguous Flemish artist of the 16th century.  I will focus on Brueghel’s career and specific works as located within the dialogue between image and text, both in relation to the popular culture’s art and literature, and also the social controversies over writing and language occurring at the time.  I’ve learned a lot of dirty proverbs in the process.  Hopefully I’m not just pissing at the moon.
