Thesis Proposal

It has been said of Christian art "that it is actually a blend of Jewish mysticism and Greek imagery."I would like to explore the relationships these seemingly contrasting cultures have in the creation of early Christian imagery, and the ways in which their influences transformed the Pagan world.

Thesis Proposal
The focus of my Senior research paper is the effects a modern setting has on a Hindu temple in America. The number of Hindu temples in America is continously growing and it would be naive to think that the modern and foreign setting has no effect on the temple and its art (sculptures, etc.).

Thesis Proposal
Women in art have always been a topic of interest, specifically the struggle for women to adapt and succeed in a male dominated world, a world where, as Griselda Pollock states, "Over each movement a named artist presides. All those canaonized as the initiators of modern art are men."

Thesis Proposal

I wish to explore the transitory characteristics of artworks specifically created to be permanently altered and destroyed by the forces of nature, a quality unique to the land art movement. I will answer the question: How do land artists use ephemerality in their works to interpret not only the earth's own geological processes but also humankind's interactino with nature?

Thesis Proposal
I propose a research paper that details the sociocultural critique offered by the Situationist International movement as it manifested itself in visual art beginning in 1959, and the connection between the extensive body of theory authored by the movement's integral figures, such as Asger Jorn and Guy DeBord (and few others), and the visual materialization of this theory in art books, fine ("gallery")art, and public art.
