Summer Research opportunities are listed by state. The pages are updated when new information is received. Those updated for this year will have 2007-08 in the left margin. Older programs may have been discontinued.

AZ, Flagstaff ~ Northern Arizon University has announced their Tribal Air Quality Internship Program. This is a 1- week program that pays $4,000 plus housing and travel stipends. GA, Athens ~ University of Georgia, Athens has announced their Microbiology Summer Undergraduate Research Program NSF REU Site: Research in Prokaryotic Biology. Students will be paid a stipend of $3,600  for the 9 week program  Most of the housing and travel costs are also covered. There will be no cost to students to live in the air-conditioned dormitories. IN, West Lafayette ~ Purdue University Institute for Nanoelectronics and Computing and the Network for Computational Nanotechnology has announced their Summer Undergraduate Research Interns program. This program is open to student majoring in the engineering disciplines, physics, chemistry, computer science, biology, and pharmacy.  Candidates should be at least a Junior and have an overall GPA of at least 3.0 and be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student who will not graduate before December 2006.  Students will be plaid a stipend of $3,500 plus student will be provided on-campus housing, meals, and travel expenses. This Summer Undergraduate MSTP Research program is an intensive 8 week program that begin Jun 9 and end August 1. MA, Woods Hole ~ Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution has announced their Summer Student Fellowship Program.  Students must have completed their junior or senior year to be eligible.  Students are paid a stipend of pf $15 per week ($4,120-$4,945) for a 10 or 12 week program ($412 per week).  Housing allowance is offered for institution housing. MI, Holland ~ Hope College has announced their Summer Research in Biology program for undergraduates.  To be eligible for this program you must be in your 1st, 2nd or 3rd year undergraduate who is considering a career in basic scientific research in the life sciences.  Student will be paid a stipend of $4,000 for this 10 week program.  On-campus housing will be provided at half cost and up to $500 in total travel costs will be provided for round trip to Hope College.  Application deadline is February 15.  You can find out more at www.hope.edu/academic/biology/research/index/htm

MN, Rochester ~ The Mayo Clinic has announced their The Mayo Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship in the biomedical sciences.  70 to 80 undergraduate students will work beside both young and established investigators on a broad array of biomedical research questions. This is a 10 week program for which participants will be paid fellowship award of $4,000; Fellowships are also available at Mayo's sites in Scottsdale, Arizona and Jacksonville, Florida. Students currently in their sophomore or junior year at a U.S. college or university with a GPA of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) and are considering a biomedical research career at the Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. level are eligible to apply. MN, Rochester ~ The Mayo Clinic has announced their Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship for College Students Program Initiative for Minority Student Development in the biomedical sciences.  Close to 100 participants are matched with scientists doing laboratory-based research clearly focused on medical problems. Participants receive a fellowship award of $4,000; Fellowships are also available at Mayo's sites in Scottsdale, Arizona and Jacksonville, Florida. Apply online at www.mayo.edu/mgs by February 1.

MO, Kansas City, Stowers Institue for Medical Research has announced their Stowers Scholars Program. THis is an eight-week summer experience for student in their Junior year with at least at 3.5 GPA and enrolled in a degree-granting program in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, chemistry, physics, computing, engineering, mathematics, or related fields. Students will be paid a stipend of $3,000 and housing will be provided for non-Kansas City residents.

New Jersey

NJ, Princeton ~ Princeton University announces their Summer Undergraduate Research Program, Department of Molecular Biology This is a 9-week program beginning June 18 and ending August 17. Students will be paid a stipend of $3,000, provided housing in Princeton dormitories, and reimbursed for traveling expenses. Applicants should be entering their senior year from an institutional of higher education that do not have a large research program. Deadline is February 5. New York

 NY, Albany ~ University at Albany at the Wadsworth Center New York State Department of Health has announced their Summer Research Program in Molecular and Cellular Biosciences.  This is a 10 week program that will being June 2 and end August 8.  Students will be paid $4,500, plus full support for housing, travel and a food allowance. NY, Cold Spring Harbor ~ Watson School of Biological Sciences has announced their Summer Undergraduate Research Program Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. NY, New York ~ Gerstner Sloan-Kettering Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences  has announced their Summer Undergraduate Research Program.  This is a 10-week research program for outstanding undergraduate students who are interested in pursuing a career in biomedically related sciences. Student are paid $3,000 and housing. Applications are being accepted from freshmen, sophomores, or juniors with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and have completed at least general biology and/or introductory chemistry.  The program begins the first Monday in June. OH, Cleveland, ~ Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine has announced their Department of Pharmacology Summer Undergraduate Research Program. This is a 10 week program working on a research project in a lab selected according to student's interest. To be eligible students must have a strong academic record and have completed at least one laboratory course prior to application.  Preference will be given to students who are current Sophomores and juniors. OH, Columbus ~ Stone Laboratory at the Ohio State University’s Island Campus on Lake Erie  has announced a Summer Research Experience of Undergraduates Program for the Summer.   You can apply for one term (4.5 weeks) or two-terms (9.0 weeks).  Applicants will receive a full scholarship covering tuition, room and board and lab fees. Students will work on a herpetology research project, a limnology research project, a fisheries research project, or an entomology research project. OH, Dayton ~ Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine has announced their Summer Research for  Minority Students ior students from underrepresented minorities and those with disabilities.  The STREAMS (Short-term Training Program to Increase Diversity  in  Health-Related Research) Program focuses on research training in the cardiovascular sciences. Qualified students will be exposed to basic laboratory skills, techniques, and technology used in biomedical research.  Students applying must be 1) underrepresented minorities or students with disabilities. 2) US citizens or permanent residents 3) undergraduate or master's students; and 4) in good academic standing. This internship pays a stipends of $3,500. Open to student following their sophomore or junior years. PA, Pittsburgh ~ University of Pittsburgh, Summer Research Fellowship.  2007 ASPET Summer Undergraduate Fellowship Program and the Pitt-Summer Program for Undergraduate Research(Pitt_SPURG), both in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Pittsburgh.    These 10 week summer research programs offers stipends (ASPET offers $3,500 and PITT-SPRUG offers $5,000)and students are offered housing and may qualify for reimbursement of up to $500 of travel expenses. TX, Dallas ~ The University of Texas, Southwestern Medical Center's  Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences has announced their Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships (SURF) Program. SURF gives students an intensive 10-week research experience. See www.utsouthwestern.edu/SURF for more information.

In addition they are offering the Quantitative and Physical Science Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (QP-SURF) Program, which will accept 10 students who are earning their undergraduate degrees in the field ofmatematics, computer science, physics, or chemistry. The QP-SURF student will carry out research projects in a biophysics, computational biology or quantitative/analytical chemistry lab. Program begins June 2 and ends August 8. The purpose of this program is to interest and challenge qualifed college students in biomedical research as it relates to cancer. WI, Madison ~ University of Wisconsin-Madison Center for Biology Education invites students to explore research in the biological sciences to participate in the Integrated Biological Sciences Summer Research Program (IBS-SRP). This is a 10 week full-time research opportunity working with faculty in five disciplinary clusters: Computational Biology & Biostatistics, Neurobiology, Cellular & Molecular Biology, Plant Development, Breeding and Genetics and Environmental Biology.
