Indiana Microscopy Meeting in Bloomington Indiana on Friday April 18th - IU is hosting the spring meeting of the Indiana Microscopy Society on Friday April 18th.
Highlights include:
Talks on both materials science and biological applications of both light and electron microscopy; technical workshops which are geared toward trouble shooting experiments problems, exchanging and sharing ideas about sample preparation, data acquisition, interpretation of data; experts in several areas will lead the workshops; poster session and a contest for best researcher and best student poster.
The meeting will be a great opportunity for undergraduates to get exposed to microscopy and see how it can be used in many different research areas.  It is also a great forum for most experienced microscopists to exchange ideas and discuss equipment and data collection.
The meeting is FREE for students registration is still required.  There is a nominal fee ($20 for INMS members, $30 for non-members) for non-students.  Please register at www.indianamicroscopy.org. Click here for a schedule of events.

University of Kentucky - Research experience for undergraduates. (Application deadline: March 1, 2008.)

Rad Chem Summer School - For an outstanding undergraduate who might be interested in, and qualified for, the American Chemical Society's Summer School in Nuclear and Radiochemistry. The program is seeking students with strong science backgrounds. If selected, these students receive an all-expense paid opportunity to complete a 6 week summer course in Nuclear and Radiochemistry in either CA or NY. They also earn hours (tuition paid) of undergraduate chemistry credit through either San Jose State University or SUNY-Stoney Brook and a $3,600 stipend. Texas A&M - Anthropogenic impact on the environment (Application deadline: March 3, 2008).

U.S. DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY, Office of Science Office of Biological and Environmental Research Climate Change Research Division (CCRD) - The Global Change Education Program (GCEP) promotes undergraduate and graduate education/training in support of the DOE global change research activities. The Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) is a ten-week research program. Application deadline: February 4, 2008.

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, invites applications to our highly successful summer research program, RISE (Research In Science and Engineering) at Rutgers/UMDNJ. RISE is co‑sponsored by our sister institution, The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ). Application deadline: January 31, 2008.

The University of South Alabama will host an NSF‑REU site for undergraduate students who want to participate in a full time research experience during the summer, under the direction of one of our faculty members. All the projects involve different aspects of "Structure and Fuction of Proteins". The River Basins Research Initiative at Furman University - The River Basins Research Initative (RBRI) is recruiting students to participate in our NSF‑REU program. RBRI is an interdisciplinary research program focused on the impact of urbanization on watershed processes in the piedmont region of South Carolina. University of Pittsburgh - Bioengineering and Bioinformatics Summer Institute (BBSI) - Course work topics include Math and Biochemistry Review, Data and Molecular Visualization, Protein Folding, Principles of Computational Biology, Fundamentals of Bioinformatics, Moleculalr-to-Cellular Simulations. (Application deadline: March 9, 2008.)

The TIM Consortium is different from most other REU sites in that it is spread out over six campuses, each with two students working on problems related to Theoretically Interesting Molecules (TIM). The entire group of six faculty and 12 students will get together twice during the summer, once to spend a week at Chapel Hill for the Reaction Mechanisms Conference and again at the end of the summer to report on results. We especially encourage applications
from underrepresented groups.

University of Nevada, Reno - NSF-REU Summer Program (Appliction deadline: March 21, 2008)

The new REU site at the Camden campus of Rutgers University invites ten undergraduate students to work with faculty mentors of three Departments on research projects of importance for the New Jersey Pinelands. The NJ Pinelands is a unique ecosystem with approximately 1.1 million acres, which has been given International Biosphere status. Students are provided housing, travel allowance and a stipend of $4500. Undergraduate Zuccaire Summer Internship Program - ZUCCAIRE UNDERGRADUATE SUMMER 2009 INTERNSHIPS IN PARIS - These 10-week internships at the Institut Pasteur, one of the world’s leading private, nonprofit centers for infectious disease research, offer hands-on laboratory experience to undergraduates contemplating a scientific career.  Applicants must be U.S. citizens. Living allowance is $400 per week. Office of Government Ethics - An office of the IRS that interprets many of the statutes promulgated by Office of Government Ethics for the IRS announces a summer job in DC doing Government ethics work at the Office of Government Ethics (OGE).

Indiana University School of Medicine on the Indianapolis Campus (IUPUI) - Two positions available in the NIH - funded minority training grant (T35 HL007802) for summer research. This is a fantastic opportunity for a student to get a top notch research experience.
Each student receives a stipend of $3,000 for the completion of this program. In addition campus residential housing (for out of state students) and roundtrip transportation is provided to and from IUPUI. Students will also participate in a GRE prep course and the summer capstone conference atMichigan State University.
