ARISTOXENUS: MUSIC, BIOGRAPHY, AND PHILOSOPHY IN THE EARLY PERIPATETIC SCHOOL September 10-12, 2009

DEPAUW UNIVERSITY, GREENCASTLE, INDIANA. IN ASSOCIATION WITH PROJECT THEOPHRASTUS

Guidelines for submission of papers and abstracts:

1. The conference will comprise presentations by invited specialists on Aristoxenus and the Peripatetic School as well as papers selected from proposals submitted to a conference panel that will judge these on an anonymous basis.

2. In the case of invited papers, a one to two page abstract should be submitted as soon as possible and by October 1, 2008 at the latest. The full paper should be submitted by June 1, 2009, so that the papers can be circulated to all participants.

3. Those wishing to propose papers should submit a 1-2 page abstract by December 1, 2008. Notification of accepted proposals will be given by February 1, 2009 and the full paper will be due on June 1, 2009. Proposals will be selected on the basis of their intrinsic merit but also in an attempt insure appropriate representation of the various aspects of Aristoxenus’ work.

4. Papers on any aspect of Aristoxenus’ work are welcome.

5. All papers should be written and presented in English.

6. Final papers should be no longer that 60 minutes. Each session will be 120 minutes long with 60 minutes devoted to the presentation of the paper and 60 minutes devoted to discussion.

7. The organizers will cover the lodging and food expenses for all speakers but speakers should try to find other funding to cover transportation to the conference. Indianapolis is the closest airport. In exceptional cases the organizers may be able to provide some help with the travel expenses of speakers.
