Our upcoming Burleigh lectures will be on February 14th and 15th, presented by Erich Gruen of the University of California, Berkeley. February 14th lecture will be held at 4:15 pm in Peeler Auditorium: "Cleopatra in Rome: Facts and Fantasies." February 15th lecture will be held at 7:30 pm in Watson Forum: "Embracing the 'Other.'"

Call for Participants! Upcoming symposium: Graeco-Roman Philanthropy and Christian Charity DePauw University Greencastle, IN 46135 March 17-18, 2007. The symposium is intended to be a roundtable forum that brings together the insights of ancient social historians, historians of Late Antiquity, epigraphists, philologists, Biblical scholars, philosophers, Medievalists, anthropologists, sociologists and scholars of philanthropic studies. Department News

Jinyu Liu, assistant professor of classical studies at DePauw University, has been awarded a 2006 David Stevenson Fellowship from the Nonprofit Academic Centers Council (NACC) to support her research work on philanthropy in classical cultures, entitled "Pagan Philanthropy versus Christian Charity: 'Secular' versus 'religious' philanthropy from a historical perspective."
