It’s the very near future and humans are coping with Earth’s devastation. People risk radiation poisoning when they step outdoors. Children attend virtual school. Friends interact via internet. Some populations, such as Native Americans, have been nearly eradicated, so representatives are displayed in “Cultural Pavilions.” In seeking a genuine Indian, curator Henry Carson encounters a most charismatic and unsettling Navajo, who soon teaches everyone a few things about tolerance and borders. A dark comedy that examines our blind dependence on technology, our isolation from each other, and our detachment from our own spirituality, Natural Selection, which premiered at Actors Theatre of Louisville in 2007, is being presented in conjunction with DePauw's ArtsFest 2008: Art & Borders.
This production is recommended for mature audiences.
DePauw University's debate team emerged as the winner of the M. Jack Parker Invitational Tournament, which took place at Northern Illinois University in mid-October 2008. DePauw debaters defeated teams from Loyola, Patrick Henry, Northern Illinois, Wheaton, and Wabash from a field of 26 teams representing 10 schools.
The Tigers' next engagement will be at home on October 28 at 4 p.m. when they'll host the British National Debate Team. The public debate will take place in the courtyard of the Green Center for the Performing Arts. Nikki Miyasato and Christine Walker will face debaters from Edinburgh University and University College Cork on the resolution: "Pornography is empowering to women."

The mission of the Department of Communication and Theatre is to provide students with strategies for effective participation in civic life. We teach communication in a way that prepares students for life-long participation as productive and engaged citizens through a rigorous curriculum in rhetoric, media studies, theatre and interpersonal communication.
As a crossroads discipline, communication is studied from the humanities, artistic, and social science perspectives. The study of communication is built around a framework that allows for an understanding of theory, opportunity for criticism of messages and practice and research in the discipline. Students study a wide range of communication areas, including rhetoric, interpersonal communication, media and theatre.
Communication students can apply their understanding of this vital process in a variety of fields, such as corporate communication, public relations, personnel, advertising, marketing, law, mass media, sales, public service and the performing arts.
Most communication students participate in co-curricular activities, such as debate (DePauw Debate), theatre (DePauw Theatre) and student media (WGRE-FM radio and D3TV cable access television).
Two majors and three minors are offered in Communication and Theatre. Students preparing for secondary teaching: please review Section V, Teacher Education, and confer with the chair of the Education Department about requirements for admission and certification. The Department offers MAJORS in Communication and in Theatre MINORS are offered in Media, Theatre,
