ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Each year the Admissions Committee will select a cohort of 20 students. The basic minimum requirement for admission is a bachelor's degree in a liberal arts area of study from an accredited college or university and prior coursework in, or the equivalent of, the following courses: foundations of education, theories of development, and cultural and learning diversity. Attendant to this is a minimum GPA of 2.5 overall and in the major.

The application deadline for admission to the program for Academic Year 2010-11, starting in Aug. 2010, is Jan. 8 2010. Applications received after this date, or applications that are incomplete as of this date, are not guaranteed committee review or acknowledgement.

The following information must be submitted with the application form:

  • Résumé
  • Three letters of recommendation
The committee suggests that at least one letter should speak to your experience working with children or youth, and at least one letter should contain an assessment of your work from a faculty member who has taught you. DePauw applicants must solicit recommendations from sources outside the Department of Education Studies.
  • $200 non-refundable application fee made out to DePauw University
  • A three-page personal statement that speaks to your understanding of the mission statement of the MAT Program at DePauw
  • A five-page reflective essay that provides evidence of a critical analysis of assigned readings, including a synthesis of the insights you have gleaned from them and the questions that are left unanswered

Candidates are advised that both the personal statement and the reflective essay are essential criteria for the committee in its deliberations and decisions. They serve in lieu of an oral interview of the applicant.

The following information should be sent separately, but must be received at DePauw by Jan. 15, 2010.

Official, sealed transcripts from all secondary institutions attended (unofficial documents or copies of transcripts will not be accepted)
