As a fifth grader growing up in St. Louis, Samuel Autman went door-to-door on his bicycle, delivering the Post Dispatch. He¹s been caught up in newspapers and writing ever since. As a journalist his writing appeared in the Birmingham Post-Herald, Tulsa World, Salt Lake Tribune, St. Louis Post-Dispatch and The San Diego Union-Tribune. One of his own stories - about a former prostitute-drug addict member of the Crips who went on to become a successful lawyer and international celebrity - became his magic
carpet out of daily journalism. His book proposal for Cupcake Brown's ³A Piece of Cake,² helped her land an agent and a Random House deal. He is currently finishing his MFA in literary nonfiction at Columbia University. During his time in Manhattan, he interned at a medium sized literary agency and worked as an editorial consultant at a small imprint.
