Emily Doak received a diploma in ballet from University of North Carolina School of the Arts, a BFA with honors in film/TV production from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, and an MFA in fiction from Indiana University. Her short fiction is forthcoming in the Gettysburg Review and has appeared in the journals Inkwell, Isotope, Barrelhouse, and Yemassee and her poetry in The Spoon River Poetry Review and Rhino. Her shortstory collection, Part of Our World Tonight, was a semifinalist in the 2007 Iowa Short Fiction Awards and her stories have been acknowledged in competitions in HungerMountain, BOMB Magazine, Meridian, Inkwell, and Nimrod International. She was a waiter fellow at Bread Loaf Writers' Conference in 2002 and won a fellowship to Ledig House International Writers Residency in 2006. Her novel manuscript, The Adventures of Penny Creed, was one of five finalists in the 2008 Fred Bonnie Memorial Best First Novel Award from River City Publishing and the first chapters won Bloomington, Indiana's Society of Arts and Letters' Chapter Career Award in 2005. She has taught writing at Indiana University, Marian College, and DePauw University. |
