Joe Heithaus holds a Ph.D. in American Literature and an M.F.A. in writing from Indiana University. His undergraduate degree is from the State University of New York at Albany. His scholarly work on Amiri Baraka appeared recently in The African American Review. His poetry has appeared in many journals and magazines including The North American Review, Poetry, and The Southern Review. At DePauw he has taught a wide variety of courses including an Honor Scholar Seminar on World War I and Modernism, a literature course on the 1960s, and a course in American Poetics. He teaches creative writing at all levels, specializing particularly in poetry writing. He lives in Greencastle where he and his wife Jenny are raising their four children.
