Rick Hillis received a B. Ed. from the University of Saskatchewan and an MFA from the Iowa Writers Workshop.  He attended Stanford University as a Stegner Fellow and Jones Lecturer in fiction writing, and has been a Chesterfield Film Writers’ Fellow at Universal Studios. His book of short stories Limbo River was awarded the Drue Heinz Literature Prize, his book of poems The Blue Machines of Night was a finalist for the Gerald Lampert Award (best first book by a Canadian), and he has sold and optioned screenplays. He has taught creative writing at a number of institutions, including Reed College, Stanford, Lewis & Clark, and the University of Oregon. For the past several years he has been on faculty at the University of Iowa’s Summer Writers’ Festival. He began teaching at DePauw in 2002 and leads workshops in creative writing, fiction writing, and screenwriting.
