Susan Hahn earned her PhD in English Literature at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Her area of focus is the history of the novel, with particular focus on narrative perspective. In Spring 2005 she taught a new course, "The Novel: Narrative Conundrums"—exploring the range of reliable and unreliable narrators. Susan came to DePauw in 1996 to direct the Writing Center, teach literature and coordinate writing placement; prior to that she was tenured at California Lutheran University where she taught literature and writing, founded and administered the Writing Center, served as coordinator of the Women's Studies Program, and was awarded the Distinguished Teaching Award. At Depauw she served for 3 years as the Associate Chair of English. She routinely teaches "Introduction to Women’s Studies" and "Women Writers: Women, Writing, A Space." She has presented papers on feminist issues and is currently working on Cather's and Wharton's use of male narrative perspective to showcase "the woman question" in their novels
