Winter Term Requirement
DePauw University requires all students to complete three winter terms. Students can select which years to complete this requirement. The athletic training students are strongly advised to complete an emergency medical technician Winter term course their sophomore year. Their Senior Winter term is a required sports medicine internship and can be completed in a setting of the student's choice. The site must employ a certified athletic trainer who will supervise and structure the experience.Setting Requirements:
1. Signed Affiliation Agreement with setting
2. Certified Athletic Trainer on staff
a. Copy of BOC card/certificate required
b. Copy of state licenses (where applicable) required3 ..Student learning contract developed with Winter Term advisor
4. .Completion of all other Winter Term office requirements
The sports medicine Winter term internship provides each student with a unique off-campus clinical experience. Students can choose settings of their particular interests and needs. These internships provide students with exposure to diverse health care professionals, environments and patient population. Consequently, the treatment plans, patient goals, and treatment outcomes may contrast with what students have seen in the intercollegiate athletic population. These internships help students practice and master their psychomotor skills while enhancing their professional affective disposition and knowledge base building their self-confidence. Students are encouraged to shadow various medical professionals through multiple internships, thus enhancing their networking potential.
