M.A., Spanish, University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, NM, 1992

Major fields of study: 19th- and 20th-Century Peninsular Literatures, Avant- Garde Movement, Film and Theater Studies, Pedagogy, Technology
Dissertation: "The Visual Arts in the Novels of Benjamín Jarnés"
My dissertation investigates how Jarnés brings representational practices from the stage and the screen into his novels published between 1926 and 1932. Jarnés employs these art forms in order to develop a theoretical discourse which addresses both aesthetic and social issues. I contextualize my study of the visual arts in Jarnés's narrative by drawing upon the theoretical debates of the twenties and thirties that evaluate the relative merits of these two media. Advisor: Roberta Johnson.
