Landing: Amesville, Ohio at 17:10 UTC (approximate) Google Earth (.kml) file
Flight Summary: The launch went smoothly. Climb rate was slightly lower than desired, probably due to northwest wind that picked up just before the balloon was filled. The MicroTrak 300 failed to send any data after reaching 30,000 feet on the ascent. The strong jet stream, which reached 140 miles/hour, carried the system into southeastern Ohio. Burst was at 95,000 feet. The 900 MHz signal was lost during the descent at 36,000 feet because the tracking vehicle could not keep up with the rapidly moving balloon. The landing site is in a heavily forested region with very few roads. The tracking vehicle was not able to receive any signal after reaching the landing area. System was recovered by the property owner and returned to DePauw in early February 2008.
