GRADUATE SCHOOL AND CAREER INFORMATION

For students considering grad school in physics, astronomy or other related fields, it can be overwhelming as there are a large number of universities offering M.S. and Ph.D. programs.

  • DePauw has a helpful site that includes information and advice on getting to grad school (this is a general site for all disciplines).
  • Peterson's College Guide also has a listing of physics and astronomy programs (in addition to nearly every other field).
  • Let's see Cal Tech or Stanford?  And then there's Harvard... If you're looking at the top programs US News & World Report has a list of what they consider the top graduate schools for physics.
  • Not that you would, but don't forget about the GRE test which is normally required by all graduate schools.

If you choose to go directly to industry (or government research) there are a number of web sites that can provide you with information on locating a job.

  • AIP has a career page that includes a searchable database of employers.
  • If you're just looking for information about what scientists in industry do, you should considering looking at the Industrial Physicist.
  • The Career Services office on campus is an excellent resource for getting started in your search for a job after DePauw.
