Vita

I am a political anthropologist who works on the intersections between militarization, development, national-security, and identity politics in the Ladakh province of Jammu & Kashmir, India. In particular, I explore how development agendas and policies of the civil-state and the military shape religious and ethnics identities of local communities living on the line of control between India and Pakistan. I got my PhD from Rutgers University in 2006 and my masters in Anthropology from Delhi University in 1999. My ongoing research project is on the intersections between violence and the politics of conservation in Kashmir.
