Jeannette Johnson-Licon, Director of the Office of Multicultural Affairs, came to DePauw in 1999 from Duke University, where she worked as the Program Coordinator at the Center for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Life. She received her BA in Political Science/Philosophy from the University of Texas-El Paso, led LGBT youth groups, and researched and volunteered in HIV outreach/prevention efforts in El Paso and Durham, NC, before completing her Masters in Public Policy at the Sanford Institute at Duke. Her job at DePauw involves designing programs, services, and advocacy for students of color and other historically marginalized identity/affinity groups, and promoting dialogues on the intersections of race, class, culture, gender and sexual orientation. Her most recent accomplishment was organizing the 2001 Great Lakes Colleges Association's LGBT Roundtable, which brought together scholars, teachers, students, and administrators from around the Midwest for presentations and workshops. She has collaborated with Dr. Meryl Altman on a winter term course titled, “Forbidden '50s.”
