Cindy O'Dell

Cindy O’Dell, Assistant Professor of Art in Photography and Video, creates challenging feminist art in many media. “Common Threads,” for which she received her MFA in 1998 from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and which was subsequently exhibited throughout the region, is composed of computer-generated photographic quilts portraying the lives and stories of women and their families living with breast cancer; her most recent work, “Residue of Memory,” is a post-modern video family memoir. In addition to her regular studio courses, she has developed and taught the first-year seminar, “Introduction to Visual Culture,” which uses hands-on projects as well as reading, writing, and discussion to introduce techniques for “reading” the visual world, with attention to issues of gender, race and identity. Cindy has also worked as a freelance photographer, graphic designer, and curator.
