Chris White

Chris White is a playwright and screenwriter teaching courses through the English Department in both of those genres as well as Topics in Literature courses.  Much of her own writing has centered on women's issues as well as issues of gender roles.  Professor White received a BA in Theatre from the University of Colorado in Boulder, additional training at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in Los Angeles, and earned an MFA in Dramatic Writing from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.  Her plays have been produced in theatres in New York City, Washington D.C., Virginia, Colorado, and Indiana.

Her play, Rhythms (an examination of seven seemingly disparate female characters who find patterns of intimate connection), was awarded the Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding New Play; her play, Sin Eater (which is set in a women's self defense class), was commissioned by Hollins University, earned Honorable Mention in the American College Theatre Festival, and has been adapted into a screenplay.  Her play, Thespian, was a finalist for the Heideman Award at Actors Theatre of Louisville and chosen for the 2001 Ten-minute Play Festival at New York University.  Professor White's novel, Life List (which deals with the deeper significance of marriage), is currently with Altair Literary Agency. Her play, Thaw (which centers on a woman in labor and giving birth with a female friend), is currently in development with Manhattan Theatre Source in New York.
