Yvonne C Williams is the Hampton and Esther Boswell Distinguished University Professor of Black Studies. She earned her Ph.D. at Case Western University in Political Science. Her early interests were in the area of public policy and she has published with a focus on female criminal behavior and the implication for public policy. She was the founder and long time Director of the Black Studies Program at The College of Wooster. In recent years she has turned her scholarly attention almost entirely to issues involving Black women. This includes a project on the Jeans teachers, especially in Alabama, from 1915 to 1958. She has recently been named to the governing board of the National Council for Black Studies.
