The first half of a 2-semester survey of East Asian Art (from 1500 B.C.E. to the 14th century) analyzing the major developments in the art and architecture of China, Japan, and Korea over a range of media. We will study some of the various methodologies that can be applied to East Asian Art as well as key themes in the chronological and historical development of visual cultures against the background of political, social, and cultural contexts.
