Strategic Plan 2010-2015
As part of its Strategic Plan on International Education (2010-2015) the International Education Committee submits the following vision, values and mission statement for International Education at DePauw University.
OUR VISION
With a strong history of international exchange and collaboration, and a growing international community, DePauw University provides numerous opportunities for global learning. Through these diverse experiences we celebrate curiosity, challenge ourselves intellectually, and encourage self-reflection. We strive to enable all members of the DePauw community to be culturally aware, socially responsible citizens who can actively engage the urgent challenges of the 21st century in their local, national and international communities.
OUR VALUES
We value curiosity—the desire and the courage to discover new things about the world and one’s place in it. We value the beauties and joys to be found in other cultures. And we value transformative encounters with cultures on their own terms, encounters that require us to step outside the comfortable and familiar and reflect critically on our place in the world.
OUR MISSION
DePauw inspires its members to fully engage with the world’s dynamism and diversity. Grounded in current research and an interdisciplinary perspective, our integrated curriculum gives students the empathy, knowledge, and skills to become responsible global citizens. Through a rich variety of experiential, social, and intellectual opportunities both on and off-campus, DePauw provides a context for understanding complex issues that cross borders: we come face to face with different people, ideas, cultures, and places. Our international campus community fosters dialogue and the creation of partnerships that can transform us and the world in which we live. International education at DePauw addresses the whole person, opens us up to the wonder of our shared world, and seeks to spark change through a more acute awareness of our global context.
