Career, Internship, Employment and Graduate/Professional School Planning at DePauw
Professional Opportunities exists to help students and alumni craft lives of meaning, significance and service. This includes their career and life plans. We don’t have to tell you how important we believe career preparation is to the success of students both today and throughout their lives.
As you know, it is never too early for students to think about preparing themselves for graduation and their transition to work, applying to graduate or professional school, post-graduate fellowships or awards, or service programs.
Our services are centrally located in the lobby of the Union Building. By activating their TigerTracks account students will receive regular communication about programs, opportunities and services; see our postings in the DePauw Weekly; sign up for Twitter and Facebook notifications; and will be strongly encouraged to set up a profile and join LinkedIn, a professional networking site with an alumni group of over 4,000 engaged alumni.
We encourage families and alumni to stay involved with Professional Opportunities as we work together on life after DePauw. You are welcome to receive our emails, join our Twitter and Facebook sites and stop in our office to visit if you are in Greencastle.

Why the Liberal Arts? Preparation for the Predicaments of the 21st Century
DePauw University offers its students a contemporary liberal arts education. Its mission is to provide students with an integrated, multi-disciplinary approach to critical analysis, problem solving and the leadership skills required to translate what is learned into effective action and success in their careers.
DePauw students know how to think, speak and write effectively and within context. These are the touchstones of a good liberal arts education.
More specifically, we know from alumni, employers and internship sponsors that DePauw students can manage projects from start to finish; demonstrate effective leadership and membership within work teams; and, finally, read, understand and interpret quantitative and financial data about organizations. Each of these skills is a key to developing success in the workplace.
DePauw students participate in an unusual number of experiences both within and outside of the curriculum in which they develop, use and excel in the work skills most important to employers. The combination of academic rigor and robust social experience at DePauw helps students become clear thinkers and socially adept employees who are engaged in their communities.
Our students will enter and lead a world filled with complicated predicaments related to the environment, economy, food and health. There is no better preparation to address these issues within a global community than a liberal arts degree from DePauw.
How We Work with Students
Our location in the lobby of the Union Building allows us to be in the center of student activity. Our advisors, director and assistant director level professionals, host walk-ins at our advising bar to accommodate student questions.
We spend significant amounts of time replicating this walk-in model in the campus living units. Our staff will provide the same services at the living units in the evening as we do during the day. We believe that taking away obstacles is the best way to engage students in these issues.
Finally, we know that every student is unique. This work cannot be done wholesale. The path your student chooses in life is uniquely theirs and we wish to be part of helping them make a smooth, intentional and successful transition.
