Services

Advising - Our staff can assist with self-assessment and career exploration in addition to enhancing job and graduate school search techniques. Career counseling can help students define skills, values, and interests, while developing a plan for the future.  If your student is off campus these sessions can be done via Skype.

Connecting with Alumni -DePauw alumni are eager to help students.  The frequently visit campus to meet with students.  They are excellent resources for career information and advice.

TigerLinks - We strongly encourage students to set up an account on LinkedIn.  LinkedIn is a professional networking site that allows them to present all the information they might include on a resume but in a dynamic and standardized format.  In addition, seniors may then join the DePauw alumni (TigerLinks) group with over 4000 alumni who can help with career issues. 

Graduate and Professional School Advising - Students seeking to attend graduate or professional school can receive assistance with their planning and application process. 

Pre-Professional Advising - Students may seek advising from pre-professional advisors in law, medicine and allied health fields, engineering, business and ministry.  Each advisor holds hours in the lobby of the Union Building at the advising bar. 

National Scholarships and Awards - The advisor for national fellowships and awards (Fulbright, Rhodes, etc.) holds regular sessions for students in the lobby of the Union Building at the advising bar. 

Internships - Internships help students gain the practical knowledge and skills that will be marketable upon graduation. Students work with the staff to plan their own internships, shaping them to fit their interests, skills, and academic background.  Students may participate in internships during the winter term, summer and academic year. 

On-Campus Recruiting - Organizations, companies, and graduate schools visit DePauw each year to conduct preliminary interviews with prospective candidates.  We host on-campus job fairs each year where students can connect with employers.

Off-Campus Recruiting - DePauw participates in interview days in cooperation with other colleges and universities.  These events offer opportunities with companies and organizations that seek liberal arts graduates.

Employment and Internship Opportunities – TigerTracks contains all of our listings from companies and organizations seeking to hire DePauw students and alumni.  These opportunities are constantly updated and changing.

Job Shadow - Job shadows are a great way for students to get a glimpse into the life of a certain position or career field. Job shadows are set up between students and the person they are shadowing. Professional opportunities staff counsel students on how to find and contact a shadowing employer.

Workshop Series - Sessions are presented on resume/cover letter writing, networking, interview techniques, senior interviewing events, graduate school planning, professional etiquette, and job search strategies, to name a few.

Online Services and Resources – TigerTracks is our online data and opportunity management system.  It is a place where students store documents like resumes, seek out jobs and internships, connect with alumni, and keep track of their DePauw experiences.

Library and Printed Publications – We partner with the Roy West Library on campus to provide materials that includes titles on resume writing, interviewing, job searching, internships, and various careers available for check out. In addition, online materials pertaining to resume and cover letter writing and networking are available at no charge to students.

Testing - To assist the career advising process, the staff can incorporate a variety of instruments including the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and StrengthsFinder.

Mock Interviews - Videotaped practice interviews are available for those entering the job market, seeking internships, and applying to graduate school.

Resume Reviews - Students meet one-on-one with an advisor to have resumes critiqued, as well as making sure it is ready to go to employers. The staff can assist with the beginning stages of resumes right up to proof-reading the final draft. Application essays and cover letters as well.
