Jeffery Smith (Ph.D., University of Minnesota) is the Nancy Schaenen Visiting Scholar at the Prindle Institute for Ethics and Visiting Associate Professor of Philosophy at DePauw University. He is currently on leave from his regular appointment as Associate Professor of Business Ethics and Director of the Banta Center for Business, Ethics and Society at the University of Redlands in Southern California, where he has taught courses in business ethics, ethical theory and political philosophy. He has published on topics ranging from corporate social responsibility, corporate human rights obligations, ethics in employment and ethical decision making, which have appeared in journals such as Business Ethics Quarterly, Business Ethics: A European Review, the Journal of Business Ethics and Ethical Theory and Moral Practice. In addition to offering lectures at institutions such as the University of Pennsylvania and the Economic University of Bratislava, he served as Visiting Professor of Ethics at Tilburg University in the Netherlands and is an Adjunct Professor of Bioindustry Ethics at the Keck Graduate Institute in Claremont, California.
While in residence at DePauw, Professor Smith will continue his research into the moral foundations of corporate social responsibility, offer two business ethics courses through the Philosophy Department and work closely with the Management Fellows Program to explore how moral and political philosophy can shape the study of economics and management.
