Ama Sefa-Dapaah Wins National Science Foundation Scholarship
The National Science Foundation and major technology companies (e.g. Microsoft, Google) award scholarships that allow computer science majors to attend the annual Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing (GHC) conference. This year, the conference was held in Houston (October 15-17, 2015). DePauw's Ama Sefa-Dapaah won one of the coveted, all-expenses-paid scholarships. Ama submitted her resume to about half of the industry booths at GHC: Goldman Sachs, Amazon, AT&T, ThoughtWorks, Bank of America, PayPal, Intel, etc. She also had lunch with her GHC mentor, a Software Engineer at Amazon and with her mentor's friend, a Program Manager/Software Engineer at Intel. (Pictured below left) Amazon invited Ama to a special party, as well.
One of Ama's best GHC memories was meeting our department's alumna, Danielle Jaegers (DePauw Class of 2010), who works for Microsoft. (pictured below right) The companies represented at GHC are sorting through resumes now, but Ama has already had an internship interview with Verizon.
