Computer Science Major Ashley Myers Reaches Microsoft Finals (Spring, 2010)
Senior Computer Science major Ashley Myers, along with her teammate Malisa Vongskul (a student at IUPUI), are one of twelve teams to reach the 2010 Microsoft Imagine Cup United States Finals. The team's project, named "Light Alert", revolves around the design of a location-aware mobile phone software application that uses GPS data to warn women if they enter dangerous areas. The United States finals will take place in Washington D.C. on April 23rd - 26th where the team will present their work to a panel of judges. In addition to the official judging, the public may vote for a "People's Choice Award" online (to vote for Myers and Vongskul select team MangoBunnies.) The winner of the U.S. finals will be invited to compete at the world-wide finals in Warsaw, Poland in July 2010. Last year the team of Myers, DePauw graduate Erin 'Ed' Donahue, and Vongskul took first runner-up at the United States finals.
Update: Myers received first runner-up status again in 2010!
