Brittany McCullar Receives Prestigious National Science Foundation Scholarship (Fall, 2007)
Brittany (Brit) McCullar received a prestigious scholarship from the National Science Foundation to attend the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing, October 17-20, 2007, in Orlando and has also been named as an official blogger for the event. Even more impressively, Brit also received a Bridge Day Scholarship to allow her to arrive a day early and obtain extra leadership training and networking experiences. Only 100 of the 900 applicants received this honor. The scholarships provide airfare, hotel accommodations and registration fees.
Brit's awards are significant for two reasons: One, she competed with over 900 students from all over the world, who were mostly graduate students at large research institutions; and, two, the conference will be valuable for Brit and the Department, because she will chair the local ACM-W chapter this year.
