Two Computer Science Majors Aid Tornado Victims in Henryville Indiana (Spring, 2012)
Computer Science majors Vince Aguirre and George Velazquez were among a small group of DePauw students and Greencastle residents noted on DePauw’s web site for their service to the Henryville, Indiana community after it was devastated by a tornado.
According to the DePauw web site the tornado “traveled 50 miles from Indiana into Kentucky, reaching wind speeds of 170 miles per hour. Major sections of Henryville, including the local elementary school and high school, were destroyed. In nearby Marysville, almost nothing was left standing.” DePauw students undertook a number of relief projects including “working in and around a barn that was destroyed, cleaning debris and prying off pieces of metal the wind had wrapped around trees.” They also “helped unload truckloads of supplies that were sent from across the country.” Thanks to Vince and George for their service!
