ENG 155a: Topics in Literary Studies:
Writing About Film
Professor Flury

In this course, designed for students with little or no experience in the study of film, you will practice, and experiment with, ways of writing (and reading and thinking) about and through film, from composing reviews to emulating avant-garde approaches to cinema (for example, that of the surrealists).  We will also study various manifestos that have emerged in the course of cinema history, and you will collaboratively, in small groups, write one yourselves.  As a matter of course, we will learn and appropriate various discourses in film studies and related fields.
