Tamara Beauboeuf is Associate Professor of Women's Studies. She offers courses in the sociology of education, women and education, girls’ and women’s lifespan development, and feminist inquiry. Her published work has examined teachers’ negotiations of race and gender in their identities and pedagogy, and the embodiment of feminine standards of goodness. The latter is most recently investigated in her book, Behind the mask of the strong Black woman: Voice and the embodiment of a costly performance (2009, Temple University Press; A brief Ms. Magazine interview about the book can be accessed here:
