Professor of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, Tamara Beauboeuf serves as the Dean of Faculty. A member of the DePauw faculty since 2001, Dr. Beauboeuf is a feminist sociologist who offers courses on girlhood, gender and education, and the embodiment of femininities. In her research, she has explored the impact of racialized gender on Black women’s pedagogy, their constructions of feminine goodness, and their experiences of health and well being. She is the author of several peer-reviewed articles as well as the monograph, Behind the Mask of the Strong Black Woman: Voice and the Embodiment of Costly Performance (2009: Temple University Press). Dr. Beauboeuf’s current projects include a book manuscript on the educational innovations of Howard University’s first dean of women, Lucy Diggs Slowe, and a collaborative mixed-methods study with Jan Thomas (Kenyon College) and Karla Erickson (Grinnell College) on post-tenure faculty growth and thriving.Back to Faculty
