Associate Professor of Anthropology
Mona Bhan, Associate Professor of Anthropology, joined DePauw in 2006 after getting her PhD in Cultural Anthropology from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. Her extensive research work on Ladakh on questions of identity, development, militarization, and counterinsurgency has been published in numerous journals such as the Journal of Asian Studies, Sociological Bulletin, and Contemporary South Asia. Her monograph on counterinsurgency and democracy in Ladakh will be out with Routledge in September 2013. She has also conducted ethnographic fieldwork in Kashmir where she focused on the relationship between violence, counterinsurgency, and environmental activism. Her current project examines the politics and contestations over water between India and Pakistan. At DePauw she teaches courses on Wars and Militarism, Anthropology of Development, Ethnography of Gender in South Asia, Cosmopolitanism, and Environmental Anthropology.Back to Faculty
