Academic Affairs -
Orientation/Survey

Hi. Welcome to DePauw. As faculty development coordinator, I’m getting ready for the orientation you’ll be attending August 20 and 21, and I need to ask to fill out a short survey about your needs and plans for the fall with regard to classroom technology and library resources.

During our Thursday session, we want to present information specifically designed to address your questions and needs. So my colleagues Rick Provine (Director of Libraries) and Carol Smith (Interim Chief Information Officer) would appreciate it very much if you could take a few moments to answer the following questions.

Please respond to maltman@depauw.edu with your answers by Monday, July 28, 2008. You can simply copy these questions into a WORD document to type your answers and send it to me as an attachment.

1. Briefly describe your pedagogical approaches for your courses this fall. For example, will you be using lecture formats, discussion-based courses, laboratories, etc. It would also be helpful for us to understand a bit about your content area and the level of the courses.

2. What type of instructional or technical support do you believe would be most beneficial to help you prepare for the courses you described in the preceding question? This might include library instruction, or other technical support.

3. Are you interested in formalized training or technology support (e.g., learning new skills or improving existing skills) for you or students in your course? If so, what type of services would be most helpful for you?

4. Briefly describe the types of technology you plan on using to teach the courses you described in question 1. For example, do you plan to use an overhead projector, computer and projector, on-line discussions, etc?

5. Are you planning on any course projects for your students that will require technology or technology component or a research or library component?

6. Would you like for the Instructional Technology staff to keep track of the students who use their services for help with projects or assignments specific to your course? (They would provide you information via e-mail about which students asked for assistance.)

Thank you for taking the time for responding to this request during what I know is a very busy time for you. If you have any other questions I could help you with, don’t hesitate to contact me. See you on August 20!

Thanks,
Meryl Altman
