Tips for Finding an Internship or Summer Job
- Focus on what you can do for and offer the employer, not what you hope to get out of the internship.
- Internships come in all shapes and sizes (paid, unpaid, for credit, not for credit, four weeks long, 6 months long, etc.)
- Many internships, part-time and/or summer job opportunities may not be advertised or posted; you need to approach the organization directly and inquire about an employment opportunity.
- Keep an eye on the internship postings listed on TigerTracks, which you access through The Career Center's website.
- The internship books, guides and directories in The Career Center contains thousands of internships across the United States in different industries/occupations.
- The Winter Term internship listings in The Career Center may be valuable leads--many Winter Term employers may be willing to consider an intern for a time other than January.
- Now is an excellent time to begin your search for summer employment; if you wait until late April or May there will be fewer options available.
