Career-Related Tips for DePauw Students
Provided by Tom Cath, Director of Career Services and
Erin Mahoney, Assistant Director of Career Services
- Take courses in a wide variety of subjects to broaden your knowledge, sharpen your analytical skills and further enhance your creativity.
- Participate in paid (or unpaid) internships during the summer, Winter Terms and perhaps during the semester. Employers expect you to have some work experience upon graduation; the experience does not need to be in any particular field.
- Most employers seek employees who possess outstanding communication skills, the ability to solve problems, flexibility, creativity, a good work ethic, and the capability of working as part of a team.
- Choose an academic major that you enjoy, not necessarily one you think you need to secure a particular job. Many employers are more interested in your skills, talents, personal characteristics and potential than they are in your academic major (or perhaps your GPA).
- Use The DePauw Career Center on the third floor of Harrison Hall - the staff can teach you how to look for an internship or a full-time job.
-Relationships with Employers-
- The Career Center continually initiates and develops relationships with employers who may be interested in hiring DePauw students for internships and full-time jobs. If you worked for an employer this summer with whom we might be able to develop such a relationship, please provide Tom Cath in The Career Center with the contact information. Thanks for your help in further developing opportunities for DePauw students.
