1.) LSAT - (Law School Admissions Test). This consists of five 35-minute sections of multiple choice questions. A 30-minute writing sample is administered at the end of the test. It is designed to measure the reading and comprehension of complex texts with accuracy and insight; the organization and management of information and the ability to draw reasonable inferences from it; the ability to reason critically; and the analysis and evaluation of the reasoning and argument of others. The LSAT fee is $78 and the test is offered four time per year: June, September, December and February. Specific information can be obtained by visiting the LSAT homepage.
2.) MCAT - (Medical College Admission Test). This computer-based test lasts a full day, and is given sixteen times a year. It assesses mastery of basic concepts in biology, chemistry (general and organic), and physics; facility with scientific problem solving and critical thinking; and writing skills. The fee is approximately $210. Specific information can be obtained by visiting the AAMC website.
3.) GRE - (Graduate Record Examination). The paper-and-pencil version of the test consists of seven 30-minute sections. The general aptitude test proves a general scholastic ability at the graduates level; it is designed to measure verbal, quantitative and analytical abilities. The subject tests are designed to measure knowledge and understanding of material basic to success in the field of a specific graduate major. The GRE paper-and-pencil test is offered three times per year and the fee is $64. The GRE computer-based test offers year-round testing in many locations and the fee is $96. 4.) NTE - (National Teachers Examination). This core battery test includes 3 two-hour tests involving communication skills, general, and professional knowledge. The fee ranges upon the number of tests taken; $30-$35 for one test, $50-$55 for 2 and $70-$75 for all three. Be aware that deadlines for registering for these tests are well in advance of the actual test dates, and most are given only a few times a year.
