Why an internship?

An internship is an opportunity to gain work experience in a field/area of interest. Try something, anything - you might like it! Or you will learn you do not like it enough to pursue upon graduation. There is no long-term commitment; an internship is generally short-term and a win-win situation for everyone involved. It can be:

1.) paid or unpaid
2.) for college credit
3.) during college or after graduation
4.) as short as 2 weeks or as long as 18 months

Many different organizations are interested in hosting interns. Secure an internship at a place in which you have an interest, such as a museum, law firm, senator's office, consulting firm or publishing company. Through this experience you will know more about that field and can determine whether it is something you want to do after graduation or in a future internship.
