We consider income and assets, such as savings and investments, but do not include home equity. If your parents are divorced, we ask for financial information from your custodial parent and their current spouse (if the custodial parent has remarried). By looking at all these factors, we are able to calculate your parents' share in paying for your education. Please note that we do not make allowances for carry-over losses. We will expect you to use 35 percent of your personal assets (savings, investments and trusts), plus summer and academic-year earnings, to help meet your educational costs.
We expect you to contribute $2,000 from your summer earnings every year to cover the cost of your books and personal expenses. It is important that you arrive on campus with at least $500 in hand to meet these initial costs.
Federal education officials join the DePauw Financial Aid Staff's concern about student identity theft covering young adults with huge debt.
Visit for tips on how to prevent identity theft and how to respond to it.
To report trouble, call the Department of Education hotline (1-800-MIS-USED) or e-mail oig.hotline@ed.gov.
DePauw students are eligible to receive financial assistance, including state and federal funds, while enrolled in approved off-campus study programs. Federal programs are Pell and Supplemental Education Opportunity Grants and Perkins, Stafford, and PLUS loans. Eligibility to receive federal student loans excluding PLUS loan, is based upon filing the FAFSA form for the academic year. Additional federal Stafford loan funds may be borrowed to purchase airfare or pay program costs if student has remaining loan eligibility.
