GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

Every DePauw student must complete three Winter Term projects with a satisfactory grade. (Winter Term projects are graded on a satisfactory/unsatisfactory basis.) Only one of the three required Winter Term projects may be satisfied by participation in a semester off-campus study program or fellows internship. Students opting to fulfill one of their WT credits in this way will not receive additional credit if they participate in a WT project during January of the same academic year.

ACADEMIC POLICIES

DePauw Winter Term projects do not receive regular units of academic credit, and do not meet distribution requirements for graduation or requirements toward a major. One Winter Term project is considered full time, and students may be enrolled in only one project per January session.

Grades: Grades for students in on-campus courses or group projects will be Satisfactory (S), Substandard (D), or Unsatisfactory (U). Grades for other projects will be recorded as Satisfactory (S) or Unsatisfactory (U).

Students who receive Incomplete (I) grades in a Winter Term project must complete the project by the end of the following semester or the grade will convert automatically to an Unsatisfactory (U) grade.

Attendance for on-campus courses: Students are expected to be present and prepared for all class meetings, including the first day of Winter Term.

Adjustments: Course adjustments may be made only through the end of the first day of class.  Students who wish on that date to switch into a currently OPEN class, and who receive permission from the instructor of that class, may come to the Winter Term office for assistance.

Makeup Projects: Students who have a deficient number of Winter Terms may make up a project during the summer; tuition is charged to enroll in a make-up Winter Term project. However, graduating seniors who receive an unsatisfactory Winter Term grade during the senior year may petition to make up the project during the spring semester if appropriate arrangements can be made.

Transfer credit: Transfer students may receive one credit for Winter Term for every full year of full-time study at another institution.

Mid-year transfer students are encouraged to participate in an on-campus Winter Term course during January. They can enroll in an open Winter Term course in January before the start of classes in the Winter Term office, and must either pay their second semester tuition or make arrangements for payment before the start of Winter Term.

Withdrawal: The deadline to withdraw with a grade of W is 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 4, 2007. Withdrawal from Winter Term after this date will not be allowed unless circumstances beyond the control of a student (such as illness) intervene. A student who does not withdraw by the deadline and does not complete a project will receive a grade of U (unsatisfactory).  If, during the Winter Term, a student fails to meet the minimum requirements necessary to pass his or her course, he or she may be asked to leave the campus

COSTS

Tuition for Winter Term is included in the fall and spring semester charges. Off-campus study and services projects require payment of additional funds, however, as do some on-campus courses, above and beyond normal costs for books, etc.

The charge for a make-up Winter Term project is $300.

The tuition charge for non-DePauw students who wish to take a Winter Term course is $300.
