Coming Together Logo The Alumni of Color Advisory Council (ACAC) is a standing committee of the DePauw Alumni Association.  The ACAC represents the voices of alumni of color, a historically underrepresented group, and serves as an advisory committee to the DePauw Alumni Association Board of Directors.

Additionally, the ACAC serves DePauw by 1) improving the participation of alumni of color in all aspects of DePauw life; 2) assisting DePauw with student recruitment and student retention; 3) serving as professional development resources for alumni and students; and 4) providing programming to facilitate alumni and student interaction.

The Executive Board of the ACAC is comprised of Nigel Riggins ’00 (President), Olan Garrett ’99 (Vice President) and Devon Crittenden ’89 (Vice President).

ACAC Mentoring Program:

The ACAC mentoring program is designed to address the needs and concerns of our students.  In order for us to effectively meet their needs, we ask you to consider volunteering as a mentor and also to share your suggestions on how to make our mentoring program a viable and enduring initiative.

We would like to hear your suggestions on how best to prepare students for life after DePauw.  Please click on the link below to complete the Mentoring Questionnaire.  Even if you are unable to volunteer, we would appreciate your input.  Upon receipt of your questionnaire, we will process your comments and integrate your suggestions into the program.

Coming Together 2008:

Coming Together is a bold, energetic alumni initiative designed to reconnect DePauw Alumni of Color to the University and to connect and unite alumni with students. Coming Together began in 2000, continuing every two years thereafter, and since its inception has had over 75 alumni, faculty and staff in attendance. Each reunion has allowed time for such events as a Meet and Greet with Faculty and Staff of Color, Discussions and Panels on topics including: Student Life, Life after DePauw, and discussions on current events in the US. In 2006, Coming Together created a learning experience through dialogue for its attendance with topics “Ripped from the Headlines” including: What Happened after Hurricane Katrina, Religion in the 21st Century, The Current State of Immigration in the US, and Loss of Privacy. Each Coming Together has provided a wonderful opportunity for student/alumni interaction including things such as Basketball games, a BBQ Luncheon, Bowling, and other fun activities. Guest speakers have included Bing Davis ’59 in 2000, Harry Belafonte in 2002, and Comedian Damon Williams in 2006.

We are currently starting to work on the details for Coming Together 2008. Coming Together is scheduled for the weekend of September 5-7, 2008. If you have any suggestions on how we can improve Coming Together this year, please send that information to acac@depauw.edu
