Regional Leader Job Descriptions

Council President or Convenor:

This person is a high-energy, ethusiastic, and organized leader who is committed to the regional group, it's success, growth and events.
This person will:

  • Provide leadership for the organization as a whole
  • Plan and preside over council meetings (including setting an agenda, dates and times)
  • Maintain regular communication with the Office of Alumni Relations (including meeting agendas and minutes, event updates, assistance with council problems or successes)
  • Appoints event chairs
  • Grooms a successor (oftentimes the vice president) and transitions that person
  • Submits the annual report of activities to the Office of Alumni Relations each June
  • Serves as a liaison to the University
  • Attends the Regional Leader Conference as a representative of the region
  • Serves a two-year term **BEST PRACTICE**

Vice President/President Elect:

This person supports the President and acts in the President's absence. He or she communicates regularly with the President and is actively involved with all aspects of the group. Some groups may choose to have the VP be responsible for a specific aspect of group administration, such as membership or meetings. This person will:

  • Preside over meetings and other events in the absence of the President
  • Assist the President
  • Attend the Regional Leader Conference with the President, or in place of the President if he or she is unable to attend.
  • Succeed the President when his or her term is over **BEST PRACTICE**

Immediate Past President/Convenor:

The immediate past President continues to serve and is an advisor to the leadership. He or she may have specific responsibilities or serve on committees depending on the situation.

Other Leaders or Members of the Leadership Team:

In some cases, the group is large enough and is active enough to have a leadership team that will split up responsibilities in certain areas such as:

  • Social Coordinator
  • Publicity Coordinator (as opposed to event coordinators doing this)
  • Web Coordinator
  • Communications Coordinator
  • Outreach/Service Coordinator
  • Admissions Coordinator

Committee Chairs or Event Chairs should be appointed for each event. **BEST PRACTICE**
